Financial aid eligibility for Summer 2008 is based on the 2007-2008 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). If you have not filed an application, please do so immediately. The federal processor must receive your information no later than June 30, 2008.

Applicants must be working toward a degree at Rutgers University.

Most summer aid consists of loans. To be considered for loans, undergraduate students must be registered for at least 4.5 credits; graduate students must be registered for at least 3.0 credits. Summer Federal Work-Study (FWS)  and PELL funds have separate requirements.

NOTE: Graduate Students admitted to programs which begin in the summer 2008 in Schools 15, 19, 22, 24, and 56 must file a 2008-2009 FAFSA.

Summer Financial Aid may consist of:
Type of Award Descriptions
Direct Loan
Subsidized Direct loan
Unsubsidized Direct loan
Eligibility depends upon the amount borrowed during the 2007-2008 academic year and the cost of attendance. Requires signed Master Promissory Note.
Pell Grant If you were financially eligible for the Pell Grant during 2007-2008 academic year, registered only for one semester, or you were registered part-time, either for the fall or spring semester at any institution, you may have remaining Pell Grant eligibility.
Federal Work Study Program Applications are available from mid-April in the Financial Aid and Student Employment Offices. To be financially eligible, students who are taking summer classes at RU must have remaining eligibility from academic year 2007-08. Students who are not taking summer classes must have a FAFSA on file for 2008-09, have financial need, and be planning to attend in September.
PLUS Loan Available to parents of dependent students. Based on cost of attendance minus other aid. Subject to credit check. Separate application must be submitted to Office of Financial Aid. Requires signed Plus Master Promissory Note.
NJCLASS Fixed interest loan available to borrowers who earned over $17,000 in prior year. Subject to credit check approval. Eligibility based upon cost of attendance minus financial aid. Must meet federal requirements for financial aid and have a FAFSA on file.

Summer Aid may be adjusted if your enrollment status changes or we receive updated information from the federal processor.
