To apply for federal, state, and Rutgers University need-based financial aid, you must complete the Free Application for Federal
Student Aid (FAFSA), which is available at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov.
Even if you believe you will not qualify for need-based financial aid, it is still important to file the application. Since many merit
scholarships also have a need-based component, you will not be considered for any of those scholarships if an application is
not filed. The FAFSA should be filed no later than March 15 for consideration for the next academic year.
EXTERNAL SOURCES
There are many sources of scholarship funds which are external to the University, the individual colleges, or the financial aid system.
We encourage everyone to explore these sources. Directories of these scholarships may be obtained in many bookstores, or in most local
libraries. Since most applications have a deadline, it is recommended that you begin this process as early as possible.
Rutgers is pleased to offer a computerized database search for external scholarships via the Internet. To access this
service, simply click on FastWeb or our Helpful Links.
